A 29.6m Amer F100 has sunk off Sardinia only four days after it was delivered to its new owner. Italian authorities are investigating what caused the yacht to take on water. The image above is courtesy of lanuovasardegna, via footage shared on Instagram.
Angiola II sank on the evening of 11 August off Capo Ferro, between Cappuccini Island and the Costa Smeralda, with 14 people aboard – all of whom were rescued.
Angiola II was built by Italian shipbuilder Permare under its Amer Yachts brand in 2020.
The circumstances remain under investigation by the Guardia Costiera di La Maddalena.

The coast guard’s CP 870 patrol vessel attended the incident. Seemingly, 12 of those aboard were transferred to another boat, while the owner and a friend remained aboard until they were assisted by the coast guard. The rescue operation lasted about three hours.
Angiola II is now resting in about 7m depth. Containment booms were placed around the yacht – there’s been no fuel leakage reported so far.
La Maddalena Port Authority is also requiring measures to limit environmental risks and restore the area.
Theories as to the cause of the incident
Local media reports have theorised that a fire developed in the engine area. The fire was brought under control, but the yacht subsequently took on water and sank.
Other local media has speculated that the yacht began taking on water from a leak, potentially caused by a collision with a shoal in the archipelago’s national park. Seemingly, the coast guard has ordered the owner to promptly remove the wreck.
Some international media go further and are mooting a stability crisis, while pointing out the official cause it to be established. The yacht, says one, is believed to have lost buoyancy after an engine failure reportedly triggered a fire around the seals, allowing water to enter the engine.
According to Sky TG24, the owner has already contacted a specialist company to recover the vessel. The operation is expected to be carried out using a pontoon with a capacity of approximately 200 tons.
Recent sale
The timing of the sinking follows closely on the yacht’s sale. Agenzia Marittima De Felice announced on 4 August that its brokerage team had completed the sale of the yacht on behalf of an existing client. The agency says another broker introduced the buyer.
Seemingly the boat had undergone a substantial refit shortly before the incident occurred. A sales listing says it was relaunched in April 2026 after a complete repaint of the hull and superstructure, along with maintenance to the engines, generators and air-conditioning systems, work on the onboard systems and instrumentation, and renewal of external upholstery and teak. The listing gives an asking price of €4.5m.
Angiola II, built by Permare in 2020, measures 29.6m, with a 7m beam. It has five cabins and can accommodate up to 10 guests.
Permare was founded in Sanremo in 1973 by Fernando Amerio, initially providing marine services, maintenance and sales to customers in Liguria and the nearby French Riviera. The company began building yachts in the 1980s, including boats for other Italian shipyards, before launching the Amer Yachts brand in the early 1990s with a 20m model. It now combines custom yacht construction with refit, maintenance and other marine services.
