SailTies Adventures launches global marketplace for sailing experiences

Sailing logbook and tracking app developer SailTies has launched a global marketplace aimed at consolidating the fragmented individual berth and cabin charter sector.

From racing a VO65 across the Atlantic to exploring East Greenland under sail, SailTies Adventures says its goal is to make the world’s greatest sailing experiences accessible to everyone.

The new platform, SailTies Adventures, is designed to aggregate professionally crewed trips from vetted operators worldwide. By moving away from disparate, operator-specific websites and booking forums, the platform aims to make individual berths more accessible to solo travellers, couples, and crew looking to build qualifications.

Available trips span six continents with prices starting from £300, covering four core categories: training, expedition, cruising, and racing.

Trips by the berth and cabin have existed for years, scattered across individual operators, sailing clubs, word of mouth and obscure corners of the internet. SailTies argues that for most sailors, and certainly for anyone new to sailing travel, navigating that landscape has been time-consuming, unreliable and, more often than not, fruitless.

Technology-led market consolidation

SailTies Adventures is designed to place the entire market in one place – trips are all bookable by the berth or cabin, negating the need to fund the entire boat and shoulder the organisation.

With many itineraries requiring little to no prior sailing experience, the platform offers a streamlined ‘book and go’ process for users.

The venture was developed by the team behind SailTies, the sailing logbook and tracking app trusted by more than 40,000 sailors worldwide.

Upon startup, the platform lists dozens of voyages, ranging from Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training courses to high-latitude expeditions in East Greenland and offshore racing campaigns on VO65 yachts.

To lead the commercial rollout, SailTies has appointed Mike Pickering (pictured below), former co-founder of booking platform kraken.travel.

Pickering says: “The trips have always existed. What hasn’t existed is a single, reliable place to find them. SailTies Adventures fixes that. Book a berth, turn up, and go sailing. The crew are sorted. The boat is ready. All that’s left is the experience itself.

“I’ve followed Thomas and Chris since they launched SailTies as a tracking app, and the rigour they’ve brought to building this is exactly what the market has needed.

“There is an assumption that a technology platform means you’re dealing with an algorithm and a chatbot, but the people behind SailTies are sailors. We understand the landscape, the operators, and what customers actually need from a trip. The technology makes it scalable. The people make it trustworthy.”

Dozens of trips are already live across six continents, spanning offshore racing, blue-water cruising, polar expeditions, sail training, and coastal adventures.

Chris Jacobs, co-founder of SailTies, adds: “Everything we build starts from being sailors ourselves, and we know how hard it has been to find the kind of trips that inspire you. SailTies Adventures exists to fix that. By sailors, for sailors, and now for anyone who has ever looked at the ocean and wanted to be out on it. Honestly, after this launch I’m already looking at booking a few trips myself.”

Thomas Guy, co-founder, has led the technical development of the platform from its origins as a logbook and tracking app through to the full adventures marketplace it is today.

SailTies Adventures is live now at www.sailties.net/adventures and on the iOS and Android version of the SailTies app.

Last year, SailTies also introduced Crew Match, a feature within its app designed to connect skippers with available crew.
