Cyclops Marine is changing its trading company name to Cyclops Global as the business expands beyond its marine roots into utilities and fitness technology.

Cyclops Marine will continue as a brand alongside Cyclops Utilities and Cyclops Workout.

The company says the change reflects its growth, international expansion and diversification into new sectors.

Cyclops Utilities has expanded into personal safety and infrastructure management for distribution network operators, developing remote monitoring technology and software for customers internationally. Meanwhile, Cyclops Workout is developing load-sensing technology for fitness equipment manufacturers and gym operators, with the aim of providing data that can be used to improve business intelligence and equipment performance.

The move will not affect Cyclops Marine’s existing customers or partners. The company says its marine customers will continue to work with the same team, account managers and support staff, with the change primarily affecting administrative documentation and the company’s terms and conditions.

Cyclops Marine is based at Port Solent in Portsmouth. The business has built its marine operation around wireless load-sensing technology, with products including smarttune and smartlink providing real-time data on loads across sailing yachts and superyachts.

Its technology is used to help sailors optimise rig settings and monitor loads, while its systems have also expanded into data-led applications such as rig fatigue monitoring and preventative maintenance. The company’s move into utilities and fitness follows an effort to apply its core load-sensing technology beyond sailing, with the wider business now positioning itself around sensor and data technology rather than marine applications alone.

Cyclops says the Cyclops Marine brand will continue to operate under the new Cyclops Global structure, with no changes to its customer-facing team or service.

The company is led by Ian ‘Chips’ Howarth.
