Renewable-energy regattas and new yacht club headline AMAALA’s updates at the Yachting Racing Forum

Rosanna Chopra, executive director at Red Sea Global

AMAALA outlined its role in the international sailing landscape in a keynote address on the opening day of the Yacht Racing Forum (20 November 2025), held alongside Metstrade.

Positioning the Red Sea as a growing hub for competitive sailing, environmental innovation, and youth development, the luxury tourism destination highlighted Saudi Arabia’s growing accessibility and relevance for the sport.

The keynote revisited Team AMAALA’s participation in this year’s Ocean Race Europe, noting the team’s contribution to raising Saudi Arabia’s profile in offshore racing. AMAALA reported that the campaign bolstered its focus on wellbeing, with crew experiences focused on resilience, recovery, and teamwork.

The organisation also confirmed its preparations to host The Ocean Race Grand Finale in 2027. Ahead of this, a new series of new events, including the AMAALA 600, Classic Week, foiling competitions, and match racing, will launch in 2026 as part of a wider plan to grow Saudi Arabia’s sailing calendar.

As part of these developments, AMAALA and Red Sea Global announced plans to host what they describe as the world’s first international regattas powered by renewable energy, with operations running 100 per cent on solar power from next year.

Opening in the coming months, the AMAALA Yacht Club was presented as the new focal point for the country’s maritime offerings. The facility will support year-round sailing activity on the Red Sea and aims to build a community around innovation, sustainability, and shared access to the water.

Rosanna Chopra, executive director at Red Sea Global, highlighted AMAALA’s partnerships with institutions including the Royal Yacht Squadron and Yacht Club de Monaco. According to Chopra, these alliances are essential to advancing the ocean protection initiative and encouraging collective progress throughout the sailing sector.

Chopra also highlighted the forthcoming AMAALA Yacht Club Sailing Academy, which will offer structured training pathways for young sailors. Programmes will be supported by initiatives such as the Coral Cadet programme and the Corallium Marin eLife Institute, leading research and restoration efforts.

Closing the address, Chopra called for continued collaboration across the sailing community to drive innovation, strengthen competition, and uphold environmental responsibility.
