MDL Marinas has won two titles at this year’s Maritime Solent Awards, taking home both the Clean Maritime Innovator and Sustainability Leadership awards.
The double win recognises MDL’s continued commitment to environmental progress across its network of marinas and boatyards. Over recent years, MDL has implemented a series of major initiatives to reduce its environmental impact, led by Steve Russell-Rayner.
Tim Mayer, sales and marketing director at MDL Marinas, explains: “Sustainability isn’t just a goal for MDL – it’s a responsibility we take seriously across every marina, every project and every partnership we’re involved in.”
The marina group has achieved a 54 per cent reduction in carbon emissions since 2022, and now operates on 100 per cent renewable electricity across all of its UK sites. Solar panels have been installed at 18 marinas and boatyards, cutting reliance on grid energy and reducing operational emissions.
MDL has also become the first marina operator to apply BREEAM sustainability standards to marine sites, setting a new benchmark for best practice in environmental design and management.
The Maritime Solent Awards Dinner took place yesterday (23 October 2025), organised by Maritime Solent to celebrate outstanding achievement and innovation across the Solent’s maritime industries.
