The chief executive of Swedish all-electric boat manufacturer X Shore has insisted the boatbuilder remains “fully operational” after its production arm – X Shore Production AB – filed for bankruptcy.
X Shore builds its boats in a 14,000sqm factory in Nyköping, which opened in 2021 and employs close to 70 people. The X Shore 1 model was launched in September 2022.
Speaking to Marine Industry News this morning (23 October 2025), René Hansen, chief executive of X Shore, says: “X Shore AB remains fully operational and continues to manage all customer, partner and financing relations.
“Following the bankruptcy filing of our former production subsidiary, the X Shore AB management team is meeting today with the appointed bankruptcy trustee to review options for continuity of production and next steps for the group.
“We are assessing available options to secure funding and continuity of production. Our priority is to maintain transparency, protect employees, customers and stakeholders, and ensure the long-term stability of the business.
“X Shore’s technology, design and commercial operations remain intact, and our long-term strategy – leading the electrification of marine mobility across leisure, professional and defence – continues unchanged.”
Hansen says he we will share further updates once the firm has decided on the path forward, alongside the trustee and the board.
In 2024, X Shore signed its largest order to date with M Yachts, a Germany-based yacht agency offering dealership, charter and advisory services. The same year, the firm also sold its first boat into the Middle East.
In 2023, the firm raised around 300 million SEK (£23m) to scale production.
