Atlantis Marine Power appointed UK distributor for Lookout AI vision system

Lookout, a company specialising in artificial intelligence for marine safety, has appointed Atlantis Marine Power as its exclusive UK distributor.

The system, designed to support human watchkeepers to reduce accidents, combines artificial intelligence and sensor fusion to detect vessels, small craft, floating debris and other hazards in real time, even in low visibility or darkness.

The news comes after Lookout was named the winner of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) 2025 Innovation Award for Marine Electronics at the recent International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX).

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has recently highlighted the dangers of relying solely on human monitoring. Its 2025 report states that “humans do not make good monitors and if under-stimulated they will find other things to occupy themselves,” drawing attention to distraction and fatigue as recurring factors in maritime incidents.

Lookout claims its product counters this issue by acting as an “always alert digital lookout”, warning bridge teams of developing risks. Lookout offers features such as colour night vision for low-light conditions and augmented reality overlays for docking and manoeuvring assistance.

“Lookout is not about replacing mariners,” says Sam Bradley of Atlantis Marine Power. “It’s about giving them a partner that never blinks – a constant extra pair of eyes that enhances human awareness, especially when conditions are challenging.”

In March 2025, a collision between the container ship Solong and the anchored tanker Stena Immaculate in the North Sea caused one fatality and severe environmental damage. The MAIB’s interim report found that neither vessel had a human lookout on the bridge at the time, despite visibility ranging between 0.25 and 2.0 nautical miles.

David Rose from Lookout says: “The MAIB’s findings underline why technology like ours matters. Lookout is there to assist crews, ensuring they’re alerted the instant something appears in their path. It’s a team effort – human judgement with machine precision.”

Founded in 1986, Atlantis Marine Power is a UK-based supplier of advanced marine electrical, electronic and monitoring solutions. As the UK Lookout distributor, the firm will provide sales, installation and integration support for Lookout systems through its national dealer network, serving the commercial, leisure and defence sectors.
