Archipelago Yachts has introduced the all-electric Archipelago 40 at boot Düsseldorf 2026, marking the first fully electric model in the British builder’s range.

The new variant is based on the existing Archipelago 40 platform, and the builder says it has been re-engineered to incorporate a high-capacity battery system and an electric drivetrain. The underlying hull form, structure and general arrangement remain in keeping with the standard model, with changes focused on propulsion, energy storage and systems integration.

Stephen Weatherley, CEO of Archipelago Yachts, says: “The all-electric Archipelago 40 represents a pivotal moment for our company and for the wider expedition yacht market. Rather than compromise capability, we have taken everything that makes the Archipelago 40 so respected and re-engineered it for a zero-emissions future. By partnering with ePropulsion and designing the boat to be ready for future methanol range extension, we are giving owners a genuinely future-proof vessel that is efficient, powerful, and responsible.”

Propulsion is provided by a fully integrated electric system supplied by ePropulsion, comprising twin 250kW low-speed electric motors. The motors drive the propellers directly, removing the need for gearboxes and reducing mechanical complexity. According to the company, this configuration contributes to improved efficiency, reduced noise and lower vibration levels onboard. Electrical energy for propulsion and onboard systems is stored in approximately 600kWh of installed battery capacity.

The vessel is also equipped with an 8kW solar array distributed across the roof, side decks and topsides. The builder says this array is intended to supplement battery charging during operation and at anchor, to extend operating range and to reduce dependence on shore-based charging infrastructure.

Danny Tao, co-founder and CEO of ePropulsion — named in Fortune China’s ’40 Under 40′ list for 2025 — says: “The all-electric Archipelago 40 shows what can be achieved when electric propulsion is fully integrated into the vessel design. Combining our twin 250kW low-speed electric motors with a high-capacity battery system and integrated solar generation, the platform delivers efficiency, reliability, and outstanding onboard comfort.

“It is a strong example of how electric propulsion can enhance capability while supporting a more sustainable future for cruising yachts.”

Performance figures provided by the builder indicate a top speed of approximately 22 knots. The interior layout allows accommodation for up to six guests. The yacht has been configured primarily with Mediterranean operation in mind, where low-noise running, solar-assisted energy generation and electric propulsion are expected to offer operational benefits.

The all-electric Archipelago 40 has also been developed with provision for a future methanol-powered range extender. Structural elements and systems interfaces have been prepared in advance, allowing the technology to be integrated at a later stage when supporting infrastructure becomes more widely available.
