European Boating Industry (EBI) will officially launch the Baltic Sea Boating Forum at the Helsinki International Boat Show in February.
The forum is being presented as a new platform for dialogue between the boating industry, policymakers and other stakeholders, focusing specifically on issues affecting boating in the Baltic Sea. Its scope covers environmental responsibility alongside the role of boating within the region’s wider maritime economy.
The forum forms part of Baltic Sea Day at the Helsinki International Boat Show, which runs 6-15 February 2026, and is supported by the Finnish Marine Industries Federation, Finnboat.
The inaugural forum is scheduled to take place on Friday 13 February 2026 from 2pm to 3.30pm. Confirmed speakers include Sari Multala, Finnish Minister of Climate and the Environment, and Rüdiger Strempel, executive secretary of the Helsinki Commission. A panel discussion moderated by Philip Easthill, EBI secretary-general, will include contributions from policymakers, industry representatives and user groups from across the Baltic Sea region.
Discussions are expected to address current approaches to boating in the Baltic Sea and the sector’s responses to environmental policy objectives. Topics outlined for consideration include the position of recreational boating within government policy frameworks, the contribution of industry-led innovation to environmental targets and the interaction between long-term environmental goals and practical operational measures.
The agenda also references the role of recreational boating in relation to the Baltic Sea Action Plan, the region’s alignment with the 30 per cent marine protection objective and the implications for access, tourism and regional economic activity.
The Baltic Sea Boating Forum is organised in cooperation between the European Boating Industry, which represents the recreational boating industry in Europe, and the Helsinki International Boat Show.
