Vessev has introduced the latest in its VS-9 platform, a fully electric hydrofoiling day boat, the VS-9 Skye.

According to the New Zealand-based firm, the new boat is designed to deliver a quieter and more energy-efficient on-water experience.

Vessev have said that with this launch, they have “reimagined what a day boat can be.” Tackling long-standing challenges in the recreational powerboat market, such as high fuel consumption, limited range and ride comfort in varying conditions.

The hydrofoiling technology promises to enable the vessel to lift above the water at speed, reducing drag and improving efficiency and seakeeping.

Eric Laakmann, co-founder and CEO of Vessev, explains: “It’s not just about going electric; it’s about creating a better experience for boaters. We want to give them something truly innovative that’s going to turn heads.”

Vessev underlines that, in the US powerboat market, vessel layouts, propulsion systems, and onboard experiences have changed relatively little over recent years. Earlier this year, the firm expanded and opened an international office to serve the US market and meet demand.

The VS-9 Skye features a carbon fibre composite catamaran hull and accommodates up to 10, with a varied deck layout – divided into three zones, a midship daybed seating, forward bow seating and an aft lounge with a dining table.

Paul Flett, Vessev’s head of vessels, says: “Every detail has been considered to enhance fun and freedom on the water. We designed it to be a space where everyone can connect and have a great time.

“Our design philosophy is to keep things beautifully simple. We use smooth angles, continuous lines, and a clean, uncluttered aesthetic to keep the hydrofoiling technology at the centre of attention.”

The company believes the VS-9 offers a viable alternative, improving comfort, reducing noise and lowering operating costs. It is designed to cruise at 25 knots with a range quoted up to 50 nautical miles under a light load. In shallow waters and for beach landings, the hydrofoils are fully retractable.

The first deliveries of the VS-9 Skye are scheduled for 2027, with reservations now open. Visitors to the boot Düsseldorf show in January 2026 can have a good look at the VS-9 Skye with Vessev (Hall 4, Stand 4D02) through a VR experience.
