Lookout, a company specialising in artificial intelligence for marine safety, has been named the winner of the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) 2025 Innovation Award for Marine Electronics at the recent International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition and Conference (IBEX).
Presented annually by the NMMA, the Innovation Awards recognise outstanding new products that demonstrate advancements in technology, design and safety. MIN has reported on the full list of the 2025 NMMA Innovation Award winners.
A panel of marine journalists and industry experts evaluates hundreds of entries before announcing the winners during IBEX’s Industry Breakfast, attended by boat builders, dealers and media representatives.
Judge Steve Mitchell, a marine electronics reviewer for Panbo, 48° North and SeaBits, comments: “Lookout has integrated its advanced AI vision cameras with a Coast Guard-certified navigation light, creating an all-in-one solution.
“It simplifies installation while delivering always-on hazard detection – spotting vessels, debris and wildlife for unmatched safety on the water.”
Lookout’s innovation combines a high-performance AI camera with a Coast Guard-rated, all-around white navigation/anchor light from Lumitec, designed for optimal top-of-mast placement.
The system automatically detects and tracks objects such as buoys, floating debris, other vessels and marine wildlife, displaying the information directly on popular multifunction displays (MFDs), including Garmin, Raymarine, Furuno and Simrad.
Applicable to vessels ranging from 20-foot wake boats to 65-foot cruisers, Lookout aims to reduce risks associated with operator inattention and limited visibility, which are two leading causes of boating accidents identified by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The interface presents hazard data in real time, using either augmented video overlays or a 3D aerial visualisation to enhance situational awareness both day and night.
David Rose, CEO of Lookout says: “We’re honoured to be recognised among so many innovative products.
“What customers love about Lookout is simplicity. Boats already have sonar, radar, AIS, cameras and charts, but they’re all in separate displays. We bring those sources of truth together into a single, intuitive view that’s easy to understand. This award validates that the industry sees the value in that integration.”
