The Marche Yachting and Cruising Association (AMYC), with the support of ATIM – the Marche Agency for Tourism and Internationalization, has outlined its projects to fuel the future of regional yachting in the area and further develop the Marche yachting sector.
The AMYC has announced the finalisation process of the Ancona port master plan, which includes areas dedicated to boatbuilders, the redevelopment of existing sites, and the opportunity for companies to concentrate their activities. The plan includes the construction of berths capable of accommodating yachts with a draft of up to 8 metres.
This update follows discussions and plans that were outlined for the future of luxury yachting in the Marche region, Italy, at the Sailing Towards the Future – The Luxury Yachting Industry in the Marche Region conference held in February.
The AMYC comprises 37 members including shipyards, institutions, universities, companies and industry operators.
At a press conference held at Cannes Yachting Festival, Alfonso Postorino, general manager of Cantiere Rossini, highlighted the need to strengthen mooring facilities in the Marche region: “A sector study conducted on regional production for the five-year period 2020–2024 revealed that, in the Marche region alone, more superyachts were built than in the combined total of the Netherlands, Germany, and Turkey. It is a shame that these yachts are built here and then never return, due to a lack of adequate berths. As an association, we have engaged in dialogue with the competent authorities and found great openness: we are now close to finalising an agreement with the Municipality of Civitanova and the Port Authority of Ancona. Soon we will be able to offer berths for large yachts, both for long-term mooring and for shorter stays.”
Ancona is a hotbed of boatbuilding activity, with a wealth of leading shipyards. In 2025, Ferretti Group inaugurated its new operational headquarters within the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard in Ancona.
Tourism, internationalisation and the Marche brand
Marina Santucci, director of ATIM, says: “Tourism and internationalisation go hand in hand. The Marche is a productive and manufacturing region, but the yachting sector has not yet been fully valued. Today we are working on building a direct connection between yachting and the Marche brand. Our brand needs to be positioned at the highest level in order to attract high-spending visitors. When we talk about luxury, there is often a stigma, but this must not be the case: yachting generates significant economic impact, creates jobs, boosts GDP, and drives local development. The Marche is currently the second Italian region in terms of economic growth, with a +0.8 per cent increase.”
The Marche Yachting and Cruising Association also reiterated its commitment to establish collaborations with other industry associations, both nationally and internationally, in order to expand the network and strengthen the competitiveness of Marche companies in global markets.
Maurizio Minossi, president of AMYC, adds: “With these goals in mind, AMYC reaffirms its commitment to act as a bridge between institutions, companies, and the territory, enhancing a sector that combines manufacturing excellence, innovation, and tourism appeal.”
