Quick Group and Volvo Penta have joined forces to integrate Quick Nautical Equipment’s electric proportional manoeuvring thrusters with Volvo Penta’s Assisted Docking system.

The integration is designed to ensure total compatibility between the technologies, with full availability planned for the end of 2025.

Quick Group, which is based in Italy, manufactures a wide range of marine products, including anchors, windlasses, electronic controls and thrusters. The company operates in more than 110 countries. In July, the firm partnered with Mercury Marine to ensure compatibility with its Joystick Piloting system.

Volvo Penta has developed the Assisted Docking system, a semi-automated boat docking solution introduced in 2021. The system interprets joystick commands from the captain, using GPS precision to maintain course and heading, while compensating for wind and current. This allows the vessel to hold position, rotate on the spot, or move in straight lines. The system is compatible with Volvo Penta’s Aquamatic DPI and IPS propulsion ranges.

The new integration enables Assisted Docking to function with Quick Nautical Equipment thrusters via the company’s Proportional Control System (PCS).

“We are proud to announce that our electric proportional thruster systems are now fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s Assisted Docking technology — a milestone that redefines precision, control, and confidence at the helm,” confirms Andreas Karlsen, chief commercial officer of Quick Group. “Together, we are not just enhancing control — we are shaping the future of effortless boating.”

“The collaboration with Quick Group is an example of how integrating technology can enhance the overall boating experience,” says Francesco Giudice, director of yacht and superyacht sales at Volvo Penta. “We are excited to offer even more boaters an easier docking experience through Volvo Penta Assisted Docking and Quick Nautical Equipment’s electric proportional thruster. This is yet another step to make boating easier and more accessible through features like Assisted Docking, which increase confidence and ensure peace of mind – for boaters of all levels.”

Quick Group and Volvo Penta will provide further details on the collaboration at the Cannes Yachting Festival, scheduled for 9 to 14 September 2025.
